Winning the World
Let’s play a numbers game…
The world’s population is headed rapidly toward 7 billion people. Of that number, perhaps 1.8 billion people speak some form of English either as a first or second language. America itself contains a mere 300 million residents. And of those 300 million only 2.5% (or about 7.5 million people) are Independent Baptists “in the evangelical tradition.” Not even all of those are fundamentalists as we understand them, but for the sake of argument lets assume they are.
If we take a step back, that means that of the entire population of the planet, fundamentalists make up 0.10% — the bulk of which are sitting at home in America stealing members from each others churches. And yet, somehow in every missions conference I’ve ever seen I’ve been told that Baptist fundamentalists missionaries are somehow the only hope that the world has to hear the gospel. My calculator tells me that if that’s the case then the majority of the world literally hasn’t got a prayer.
We can all be glad the congregation of the saints is a wee bit bigger than fundamentalism.
Home Missions To Unreached Places (Like Orange County, California)
At least he was honest that Tustin, CA doesn’t lack for churches. It doesn’t exactly lack for Baptist churches either. Here’s a quick Google Maps snapshot of just Baptist churches in the area (never mind Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran, Non-Denominational, etc. etc.)
Apparently these “missionaries” have started this church since this video was shot.
Magic
Oblivion
A bearded man in a car grinds to a stop near a group of children and asks them a question out of the window.
“Come closer kids,” he calls when they answer, “I can’t hear you.”
The children stop their playing and stare at the beckoning stranger. Then they wisely choose to tell some adults about this character instead of approaching him. So the man drives off…and goes and finds another group of kids to try it on again.
Multiple people call the cops who interview the scary stranger and eventually release the following message:
Ah, it wasn’t a child molestor. It was a soulwinner. Evidently some of them are hard to tell apart.
I guess that whole “wise as serpents; harmless as doves” thing just doesn’t quite register with some people. All too often soulwinning is seen as carte blanche permission to engage in behavior that would otherwise get you arrested.
