Degree Update
In response to the whining thoughtful input from various people who should be happy to get anything for free instead of complaining loyal readers, I’ve updated the degree template to use fully editable Old English Text font and centered the last two lines
Get Your Doctorate From SFL
With Christmas coming up what do you get the fundamentalist who has everything? Get them the prestige of a title they know they deserve with an honorary doctorate from SFL!
SFL is happy to announce the opening of Old Paths Baptist University where the curriculum consists of this blog and a doctorate can be had merely for the asking. (Yes, I know Big Gary is offering them too but I didn’t steal the idea from him, honest. This one has been in the works for a while. Besides, can you really ever have too many honorary doctorates?)
Recipients of this degree will have just as much right to call themselves “Doctor” as 89.3% of fundamentalists who bear that title.
Simply download the PowerPoint file, edit the name and field of study and print as many as you want. Congratulations on your new title!

Announcing: Preacher Boy Week
I have completely arbitrarily chosen to ordain this week as Preacher Boy Week. (ha! ordain! get it??) This is a decision for which I would like to apologize in advance since I am completely unprepared and have no idea what I’m going to write for the next five days. I’m hopeful that panic and desperation will provide the needed inspiration. If not, then in the grand tradition of preacher boys I’ll simply rip off the notes of some other writer and not give them credit.
I will make you this one pledge: you can rest assured that whatever drivel I do concoct will not be blamed on the Holy Spirit or wrongly attributed to either C.H. Spurgeon or Abraham Lincoln (both of whom have suffered quite enough of that sort of thing).
To start things off in proper fashion I’ve included the above picture of me at twenty-four years old standing in the pulpit of a fundamentalist church. That church is now gone. I’ll let others judge whether this was cause and effect.

I’m proud today to announce a brand new service for our SFL community! CampMeetingGirl our resident handmaiden-in-waiting has volunteered to help those of you who are hurting and ailing to find answers to life’s most persistent questions with a new featured SFL advice column that we’re calling (what else?) “Ask Camp Meeting Girl.”
With her combination of old-fashioned wisdom and world class homeschool education, CMG will be happy to bless your heart with advice on anything from child rearing (she’s seen it done a whole bunch) to interior design (finally putting that correspondence course to work!)
