“I stand alone on the Word of God”. I have never figured out if this meant “I stand only on God’s Word” or “I alone, stand on God’s word” I suspect that for some fundies, it is meaning #2. I and God against all others.
i think this is what fundies mean by “sola scriptura”: i stand alone on it. i don’t read it. i just stand on it.
i bet if you asked them whose amy they’re in, they would tell you that they “may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillary, [they] may never zoom o’er the enemy, but [they’re] in the Lord’s army. YES SIR!”
also, they would pronounce “cavalry” as “calvary”.
I still get the snickers as I remember our overweight principal bouncing around, acting out the verbs. 😆

I guess you could apply this to many fundy preachers too.

I just got this mental picture of a fundy person standing on a thick bible, screaming their head off about some bible thing. haha, it was funny,
There is at least one IFB church that sings:
“The KJV AV, yes, that’s the book for me”
and then the pastor literally stands on his Bible.
Sigh!
Why are they brushing their teeth in the bathtub?
(By the way, I was taught never to stand on a book, especially a Bible, or even to put one on the floor.
My mother taught us to NEVER put ANYTHING on a Bible. In a pile of books, the Bible must be on top. (I always feel vaguely guilty when I have a pile of Bibles!) My mom would be HORRIFIED to see anyone, preacher or not, literally standing on the Bible.

Maybe they’re not actually bathing. Maybe their parents are already planning on sending them to a fundy U, and so they’re practicing how to properly white glove the bathroom. 😆
