Fundamentalist Teacher Accused Of Masturbating In Class

As CBS reports:

Paul LaDuke, 75, has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child. LaDuke has been a math teacher at the school for 26 years.

Investigators determined that, while seated at a podium in class on Friday, LaDuke unzipped and lowered his pants and masturbated while students were present in the classroom.

“Through the course of our investigation, our detectives have come to believe that this has happened several times per year for 10 years or more, possibly,” Nebel said.

Asked if there had been previous complaints that did not result in any action against LaDuke, Nebel said no.

“It’s not that it’s been reported and nothing has been done, it’s just that during the course of the investigation, we’ve come to learn certain information and I can’t go further for the fact that there’s a possibility of more charges before a grand jury,” Nebel said.

    1. The letting girls wear pants to activities is new to me. I went to the website and the dress code info is all blacked out. Is it top secret?? They also don’t provide their thing they make parents sign in order to have their kids in the school etc I think it’s called “statement of cooperation”. They are pretty fundy they are stagnate actually.

    2. I know it’s always all about appearances for them, but sometimes, it really isn’t about the superficial appearance. Some places are just getting better at looking more normal (which might be more dangerous to the naive).

      If things are truly changing inside, we’ll find out when it doesn’t take ten years for something like this to be reported.

      1. Trying to look more normal, yes, a little but really it’s dying a slow and agonizing death while waiting for their new super mog to appear and make it all right! I hope he knows cpr… I wonder how many others are shaking in their boots because they have ought to hide? 😥

  2. I’ve been to that church. Sort of BJU-ish, but not too locked in to Fundy-land. Neighborhood Bible Time is/was based out of Bethel Baptist (the church that started the school.) Sad too hear.

    When I saw the headline, I thought he was probably accused of touching himself while sitting behind a desk, or something similar. But no, they say he dropped his trousers and … and this may have been going on regularly for ten years.
    Wow.

  8. I went to Bethel for a couple years, and I remember this man. Pretty sure he was a regular usher. Kinda creeps me out. I feel badly for his family and for those kids. 🙁

  9. Thank you, Daryl. In light of high unemployment, civil unrest and occupations, major civil unrest in the Middle East, economic woes, etc., this story is a breath of fresh air! This is probably one of the funniest stories you’ve ever had on your site! There are so many good liners that I’m surprised our creative readers have not come up with too many so far. Thanks for giving us all a light spot in the day to laugh and have a retreat with fun, funny stories like this. 😀

  11. I hope he is medically evaluated. I know there are neurological disorders that cause loss of reasoning skills (=loss of inhibitions). Masturbating in public is often a sign of such a dementia or mental problem.

    1. This man is very close to my family and I know the entire story after the fact. He was indeed evaluated medically and dementia was found. He has profound deficits in memory/learning ability and in executive function. In Illinois, this is not a legal defense so a plea deal was reached in order to keep the students off the witness stand. Unfortunately, no news outlet cares about the truth, they only want to propagate the sensational.

      This incident did occur once and the man has asked for forgiveness for it (although I believe due to the circumstances of the dementia and placing a 75 year old man in a very stressful situation was not a willful sin) there is no truth to the idea this had occurred for 10 years.

      I know this is 2 years old, but I felt the need to follow up with the truth.

  13. I think PA’s congressman Joseph McDade did this as well but it was at a public beach and toward adult ladies. This is just bizarro and the dude should definitely get evaluated. What surprises me is that he did this (supposedly?) several other times and nobody said anything?! This is just too over the top and public, IMHO for typical fundie coverups.
