Sometimes, the internet actually changes the way we think about things or the way we see the world. Other times, it merely allows us to keep doing the same things we’ve always done on much larger scale.
With that in mind, Stuff Fundies Like will from time to time feature a fundamentalist website that demonstrates what happens when fundamentalism grows larger-than-life online.
Inevitably, the first site to receive this distinction is Way of Life, home of David Cloud, O Timothy Magazine, and the Fundamental Baptist Information Service. Reading this site is like watching the proverbial train wreck — or it would be if the trains were screaming at each other at the top of their lungs about neo-Evangelicals and mixed bathing.
If you’re looking for long treatises on everything from the link between “Campus Crusaders and Rome” to “Warnings about Calvinist Home-Schooling Materials” then this is definitely the place. No matter what it is that you like to eat, watch, read, play with or listen to you can likely find a reason to separate from it on this website.
Love this idea. I don’t think I would have ever found this “Way of Life” without SFL.
Had to laugh at the very first post on “Way of Life”. “BIBLICAL PRESUPPOSITIONS FOR APPROACHING THE BIBLE VERSION ISSUE”
Check #3 and #4 for some really twisted logic on textual criticism and doctrine. Should make you cringe no matter what your position is on the Text issue. LOL
😀 My friend who still attends my former church had never heard of DC or WOL, when she said that website was being recommended in her Sunday School class, I just rolled my eyes. She and her husband visited it–then they rolled their eyes.
So true! As a reforming ex-IFB myself I’m sick and tired of my church bulletin which has DC’s “Friday Church News Notes” every week. Not to mention the office is full of his materials. Going to leave this place very soon…
I have made a point to never visit that site but it sounds like their warning list might be a great place to find good resources, lol. 😀
I attended church with David Cloud about 10 yrs. ago. The man would find a problem with a rainbow….seriously. I can’t recall ever seeing him smile. He wouldn’t even great you when you walked past him. He certainly did not portrary the joy of the Lord in his everyday life.
I prefer DC and WOL to Jesus is Savior.com you will like that one better. Do you think
some of DC materials might be useful at all ?
Their featured book was “Dressing for the Lord” and I could barely contain my excitement, reading the chapter titles, such as “But I Only Wear Feminine Pants!” Sounds like a future NYT bestseller for sure.
